“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” My student self was reminded of this quote every now and then. Little did I know that this was a valuable lesson to live a fulfilling life.
Adult life is so full of responsibilities that the heart often craves to break the momentum of the daily routine. Don’t we all look forward to some downtime when we can take a break and just be? Some people find solace in spending some quality time with their loved ones. Others may prefer to indulge in their passions and hobbies. A lot of people like me yearn to go on holiday. It could be as small as a staycation or more elaborate like foreign travel. I live for adventures and trips as they refresh my heart and soul.
If you share my love for travelling, you would agree that it enriches us with several new memories – new smells, tastes, sights and colours. With time, these cherished memories can fade away if we don’t preserve them well.
Won’t it be great if we could somehow maintain those memorable moments and revisit them on a dull weekend? I have compiled a list of ways you can journal your travels and re-live those memories time and again.
Creative ways to document your travels
Maintain a travel diary
Although old-school, a travel diary is as personal as it can get. You can write, doodle, stick and make it fun and interesting. The best part is that it is easy to carry and you can start scribbling anytime you wish to. Whether you are in a cafe or in your flight, simply dig it out from your bag and get going. These days such diaries are available in a variety of cute and appealing designs. If you area a stationery lover like me, this diary would definitely make for a good addition to your collection.
Start a blog
Blogging is a great idea to preserve your memories and share it with like-minded people. Starting a blog is fairly easy and trust me, it is an infinite territory. You can get creative and add pictures and videos to make them more interactive. The best part about any online archive is that you can access it from anywhere across the globe. If you can sustain an interest in blogging and if it catches up, you can even make some extra bucks with this hobby.
Make a scrapbook
Remember Ranbir Kapoor’s scrapbook from Ye Jawani Hai Deewani. That’s what I am talking about. You can either download templates or buy hardcover scrapbooks. The creatives ones can make their own scrapbooks. You can make it as colourful and as personal as you want to. You can add stickers, ribbons, glitters etc. to make it from attractive. You can even ask your children to help out in this little craft project.
Make a video
You will enjoy doing this if you are tech-savvy and love your gadgets. You can use your GoPro or any other camera to shoot little snippets from your travel. Add catchy music and you are done. You can even upload your videos online and give an outlet to the budding Youtuber inside you.
Make a photo log
This is for all the Instagram and Facebook lovers out there. Most of us like to capture our travels in pictures. Why not make a photo series out of it? You can take a picture of every meal or take selfies with people you meet. You can even get some cool picture ideas from travel bloggers on Instagram.
A great idea if you don’t have the time to invest in any of the above. You can simply make a memory box for each of your trips. Once you return from your trip, put all your tickets, maps, menus, coins and other trinkets into these boxes. You can even buy an attractive box from your destination to add a local touch to it.
A Map on a wall
A cousin, who loves travelling, has put up a world map in her study. Her map is full of pictures from her travels. Every time she comes back from her international trip, she puts a new picture on the map. This idea is easy to implement and can make your space more personal. Moreover, you can even use it to give geography lessons to your kids.
